The Family Class sponsorship program in Canada allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor certain family members for permanent residency in Canada.
- Spouse
- Dependant Children (both biological and adopted)
- Children intended for adoption in Canada
- Parents
- Grand Parents
- Grand Children
- Common-law partner / conjugal partner and their dependent children
- Brothers / Sisters (if orphaned)
- Nephews / Nieces (if orphaned)
The sponsor must demonstrate that they are able to financially support the sponsored family member and that the relationship is genuine. The sponsored family member must also pass medical, criminal, and background checks.
The processing time for family sponsorship can take several months to a year, depending on the workload of the immigration office processing the application and how complete the application is.
There are limits on the number of sponsorships that can be accepted each year and it’s not guaranteed that you will get approved.
